Digi-Key Electronics selects Option’s SafeDistance Solution
Leuven, Belgium – April 16 , 2021 – 7h30 – Crescent (EURONEXT: OPTI) announced that Digi-Key, the world’s largest electronic component distributor, selected Option’s GDPR compliant SafeDistance solution for all employees in their product distribution center (PDC) with more than 2,500 active employee badges online in the first two weeks of the safe distance solution deployment.
The project was rolled out together with Option’s USA partner, GetWireless.
The SafeDistance solution works through a badge that each individual employee is issued. The badges interact wirelessly with one another and feed to a cloud platform which can maintain contact tracing information and improve the accuracy and efficiency of necessary quarantine procedures.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues worldwide, with unexpected spikes and surges in different regions at different times, Option’s SafeDistance solution enables to significantly cut down on the number of employees quarantining due to a potential COVID-19 exposure by accurately performing contact tracing procedures avoiding a complete operational shut-down by not knowing who might be affected.
Digi-Key chose Option’s SafeDistance solution because it was the quickest to integrate into its existing infrastructure without significant capital investment and because it offered the best privacy for employees among all the solutions available on the market.
The long battery life of the badge limits the number of recharges to one per week; a regularity not perceived as too demanding by employees.
Digi-Key recognized the strength and flexibility of Option’s solution which rests on two pillars – WMW’s cloud-based platform with apps and data registrars and Option’s CloudGate IoT gateway with superior wireless LoRaWAN performance; both core building blocks for successful digital transformations.
